The Koundoul Clinic

Since the Koundoul clinic opened in 2016, women in this town located 30 kilometers from the capital of Chad, Ndjamena, have the possibility of receiving healthcare during pregnancy and delivery. This implies that in an emergency situation or the delivery itself, they avoid the risk of moving to the capital or delivery at home, having a control during pregnancy and delivery assisted by a midwife. Despite the few means available to the clinic, its presence represents an improvement in health rates in a country that has one of the highest maternal mortality rates (deaths during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days termination of pregnancy) and infant mortality (deaths of babies under one year of age, the latter rate being used as an indicator of the country's level of health). The clinic has also run a malaria program in which a pregnant woman who comes to the center with the support of the Global Fund and the United Nations Development Program is given a long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito net, and campaigns vaccination in the area.
